Introduction
Julius Center staff participates in various ongoing educational programmes and provides epidemiology courses at several levels in the (bio)medical curriculum:

• Bachelor
• Master
• Post-Graduate
• Continuing Professional Education

The main purpose of all of these courses is to teach students the principles and methods of epidemiological research.

Description
Epidemiology is occurrence research in which relations between determinant and outcome are quantified. Depending on the research question and the nature of the research, different diagnostic, prognostic, therapeutic and etiologic designs have to be chosen.
Epidemiology delivers the tools to design methodologically sound studies, however, it also provides students and doctors with the right equipment to value published literature on its usability for clinical practice. Previously, education was mainly directed towards principles and methods of etiology, more recently these methods were extended to diagnostic and prognostic research.

The staff of the Julius Center has a great interest in diagnostic and prognostic research. This is reflected in theoretical and applied research in this field. Recently, the first edition of  “Clinical Epidemiology: Principles, Methods, and Applications for Clinical Research” was published. Many of the topics addressed in the various courses can be found in this book, which will be available as of March 2008.
