Introduction
Julius Center staff participates in various ongoing educational programmes and provides courses at several levels in the (bio)medical curriculum:

• Continuing Health Care

The major purpose of all of these courses is to teach students the principles and methods of healthservicesresearch, structure, quality, finance and functioning of healthcaresystems, especially social medicine and public health interventions.

Description
Public health is defined by WHO as the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organized effort of society. Social medicine is a medical specialty dealing with interaction between health and illness for people and environment in economic and non-economic situations, the means of influensing these interactions and the purpose of positive problem solving measures for preservation, gaining and rehabilitation of health and also prevention and eradication of (the burden of) disease. Social medicine is part of public health. Collaboration with other professionals in multidiciplinary teams and on community-, national- and international levels is characteristic for this sector.

The principles and methods of healthservicesresearch are essential for innovations in (parts of) healthcaresystems, e.g. improving quality of care, contribute to efficiency and effectiveness, secure patientsafety and introducing new concepts like diseasemanagement / integratedcare and better triage- and emergencycaresystems.

Attention is paid to the policymakingprocesses within healthcaresystems, healthcarereform and collaboration with other sectors like economics, law, ethics, sociology, organizational-, policy- and business sciences.
