Margriet de Beus presents first results Sportcor

On 7th April last year, the website www.sportcor.nl was launched. Sportsmen and -women who are hit by a sudden cardiac arrest can be registered through this website by their doctors, relatives or the sportsman or -woman himself/herself if he or she survives the cardiac arrest.

This initiative started almost a year ago, and the first results are now announced by Margriet de Beus of the Julius Center, who was involved in this research.

The number of victims reported is 50. Of these sportsmen and -women, 69% died immediately while 31% survived their cardiac arrest. The majority of the victims was male (90%), the average age of the victims was 40.6 years. This research gives us the opportunity to obtain a better understanding of the causes of these cardiac arrests. We therefore want to continue asking everyone to report victims.
