Recently, the Canon van de geneeskunde in Nederland [Canon of medicine in the Netherlands] was published. It was written by prof. Frank Huisman (Julius Center, UMC Utrecht) and prof. Mart van Lieburg (Erasmus MC and UMC Groningen), at the request of the Royal Dutch Medical Association. The book contains 50 small stories on defining moments and memorable people of Dutch medical history. Topics include: the introduction of Roman medicine in the Netherlands, the 'Black Death', the introduction of the theory on blood circulation, home delivery, the rise of medical technology, the debate on euthanasia, anti-psychiatry and genetics. The book is not just of interest to physicians and other health care workers, but to anybody who takes an interest in developments in the Dutch health care system. For more information, click here.
