The Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care is one of the twelve divisions of the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMC Utrecht).

The Center aims for a leading role in the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge in the field of health sciences and primary care. This is done by means of pioneering research on four disease-related themes and methodological research, by offering high quality teaching programs to (bio) medical students, researchers, clinicians and other health care professionals, and by providing academic primary health care.

Over the years, the name Julius Center has become synonymous with expert scientific research and education in the health sciences. The Center currently employs approximately 500 people who show great commitment, hard work, inspiration and devotion which highly contributes to the continued success of the Julius Center. The ISO 9001 certification in January 2005 of the Center’s data management facilities, ICT department, Research Clinic (including a vascular imaging center) and quality assurance organization further emphasizes the professional attitude of both the organization and its staff. These support services are of critical importance to the Center’s success as research projects, educational and care activities continue to increase and become more complex.

The Julius Center has established a professional full service Academic Clinical Research Organization (ARO) that focuses on the expert design, conduct and reporting of clinical trials and provides an internationally oriented high quality infrastructure. This ARO not only provides services to the Julius Center but also to other divisions of the UMC Utrecht and to third parties. It offers many opportunities for leading scientific research and further enhances the prominent international position of the Julius Center.

In recent years, the liaison with the Julius Health Care Centers in Leidsche Rijn, broadened the Center’s expertise to patient care and provides the Julius Center with a research environment containing excellent primary health care data.
