Theoretical Epidemiology and Biostatistics

The division Julius Center has a specific interest in principles and methods of epidemiological research. The Theoretical Epidemiology and Biostatistics research line is one of the five research lines at the division Julius Center, which coincides with the University Medical Center Utrecht defined field of interest: Epidemiology. The research in this line is clearly distinctive in that it primarily focuses on improving the theory and methodology of the discipline itself. The line Theoretical Epidemiology and Biostatistics primarily conducts studies aiming to improve existing methods and to develop innovative methods for design, statistical analysis and reporting of epidemiological studies.

The research line is centred around several methodological themes with dedicated staff:
Diagnostic and prognostic markers and clinical prediction models
Meta-analysis and individual patient data-analysis
Missing values and time-to-event analysis with dependent censoring
Confounding and effect modification
Clinical research design and analysis
Statistical methods for high-dimensional data
