Stakeholder meeting Ghana

Published: Saturday, February 20, 2010

On Monday 16th of February, a stakeholder meeting was held in Ghana to obtain support for the NWO WOTRO proposal 'Accelerating progress towards attainment in Ghana through basis health systems function strengthening' . The proposal is a collaboration between the Julius Center, CERES research school for resource studies for development, and Health Services in Ghana. The ideas have sprouted from hosting Irene Agyepong, holder of the Prince Claus Chair 2008-2010, at the Julius Center.

The Julius Center aims to develop a long term collaboration with Ghana. Similarly to the recent Asialink project with Malaysia and Indonesia, several PhD candidates will receive PhD training in Epidemiology at Utrecht University and conduct research in their home country. Rick Grobbee and Manon Kluijtmans attended the meeting, which was very succesful. Over thirty staff members from a range of different organizations such as Unicef, Ghana Health Services, and School of Public Health attended the meeting and expressed their support. In addition to this, USAID has agreed to contribute an amount of 250,000 dollars to the project.
